Roots Unveiled

"Roots Unveiled" stands as a pioneering interdisciplinary endeavor, melding traditional visual art, modern video storytelling, and installation sculpture to delve into the multifaceted Chinese American experience in Texas. Artist June's personal odyssey, sparked by the discovery of her 4th great maternal grandfather's exploits in the U.S. and her immigration to Texas as a teenager, lies at the core of this project. As June delves deeper into her familial past, unearthing captivating narratives, the project evolves into a vibrant collaboration with esteemed Chinese Texan artists, weaving a rich tapestry of personal and collective stories.

Feng Haoyu's contributions, encompassing the meticulous historical timeline and the evocative installation sculpture, infuse the project with contemporary relevance. Haoyu's chronological journey not only adds historical depth but also resonates with contemporary anxieties regarding immigration and cultural assimilation. His installation sculpture serves as a visual anchor, employing innovative design and symbolic elements to underscore the enduring impact of the Chinese community on Texan history and culture.

Set to debut at the Austin Central Library in May 2025, "Roots Unveiled" promises an immersive and thought-provoking engagement. Through the integration of modern storytelling techniques alongside traditional visual art, the project aims to shed light on the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of the Chinese American community. Viewers are invited to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage that has shaped Texas' diverse landscape. Anticipate an exhibition that seamlessly traverses the realms of past and present, offering a poignant glimpse into the enduring resilience of the Chinese American experience.
